What Element Is Amethyst? (Purple, Pink, Chevron, Ametrine)

The concept of elements to explain (human) nature has been used for centuries in both Eastern and Western cultures. In the west, the idea was developed by the Greeks and refined by well-known philosophers Plato and Aristotle. They eventually settled on four elements: earth, air, fire, and water. In the east, a fifth element was added: Akasha. This element represents the foundation of the other four.

Amethyst is associated with the elements of air and water, as it helps regulate our feelings and calm anxious thoughts. Different kinds of amethyst also have different associations.

What Element Is Amethyst? (Explained)

As explained, there are 4/5 elements, depending on the region. In the image below you’ll find the elements as well as the parts of our lives that they rule.

Having knowledge about these elements can help you to determine where your current issues are coming from, and balance out where need be. For example, if you find yourself a little spacey or frazzled, this means you might have too much air energy in you. You can balance this out by working with grounding stones of the earth element.

Besides, if you are a little familiar with the zodiac signs, you might know that each zodiac corresponds with an element because they have similar energies. For example, Virgo, Taurus, and Capricorn are earth elements, making them people who enjoy structure and are generally down-to-earth.

We can do the same with crystals.

Though all crystals come from the earth, they generally represent one of the four elements. We can determine which crystal to work with depending on many different factors; our research on the properties, intuition, corresponding zodiac signs, planets, or elements for example. If you feel drawn to learning more about the elements of crystals, this might be the method for you.

As a general rule of thumb:

The earth element corresponds with very grounding energy and represents stability, security, and the material world. Generally, if you lack earth energy you might feel anxious and struggle to manifest. Too much earth energy might result in stubbornness.

Air represents the mind, knowledge, and communication. If you have too much air energy, you might feel spacey or find yourself overthinking. A lack of air energy might result in not being able to communicate effectively or to put your thoughts in order.

Fire equals passion, action, and creativity. Too much of this and you might find yourself overconfident or reckless. Too little of it, and you’re likely to feel demotivated and insecure.

Lastly, is the water element. This represents our emotions, healing, and intuition. Too much of this energy might leave you struggling to control your emotions. Too little of it, and you might find yourself overly detached.

For amethyst, it has an amazingly calming energy, perfect for if you have trouble sleeping or are in need of some positivity. Amethyst can also help open up your crown chakra and is a great stone for anyone looking to heal this part of their life. If you struggle to meditate or ‘see the bigger picture, amethyst is there for you. As a result, we associate amethyst with both water and air.

Beware that we can categorize crystals based on many different criteria, meaning a stone might be associated with several different elements. For example, rose quartz is generally seen as a water element but is also associated with the heart chakra. As a result, we could also relate it to the element of air. If you are interested in the elements, use this as a guideline, but make your own choices based on what feels right to you. Crystals are meant to be used intuitively, after all.

What Element Is Purple Amethyst?

As explained above, purple amethyst is associated with the air and water element. Amethyst has the ability to calm a racing or overactive mind (air) and relieves an anxious heart from stress (water). For more information about purple amethyst, you can read the information under “What Element Is Amethyst? (Explained)”.

What Element Is Chevron Amethyst?

Chevron and purple amethyst are very similar stones. As a result, chevron amethyst is also associated with the air and water element.

Chevron amethyst is really just purple amethyst and white quartz, meaning it also has the additional benefits from white quartz, which is a highly spiritual one. It helps us connect to the spiritual world and opens up our crown chakra. It also has the ability to enhance the strengths of amethyst. As a result, it is generally more associated with air than regular amethyst.

What Element Is Pink Amethyst?

The reason pink amethyst is pink is that hematite is mixed in with the amethyst. The iron in hematite reacts with the amethyst, leaving it pink. Consequently, this stone combines the strengths of amethyst with the grounding properties of hematite. Therefore, we associate pink amethyst with earth, but also water.

What Element Is Ametrine?

Ametrine combines the crystals of amethyst and citrine together, which leaves us with an interesting mix of properties. Citrine is a stone that has very fiery energy – it helps you get up in the morning and achieve your goals. Amethyst on the other hand is associated with air and water, helping you to calm your mind and relax. As a  result, ametrine is a great stone if you feel like you’re missing some balance in your life.
