Can Clear Quartz Go In Salt? (Dry Salt, Saltwater, Himalayan Salt)

This universal stone is a beautiful one to have in your collection, as it is great at aligning chakras and helping you feel more balanced. Besides, it is a burst of positive vibrations, so great to use when you’re feeling down. All you need to do to make sure this stone will keep doing this is to cleanse it regularly. Today we will have a look into whether you can cleanse clear quartz using salt, as well as other (safe) methods to get rid of those negative vibrations our crystals hold onto.

Clear quartz can go in salt, including saltwater. It is a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, meaning it is hard enough to prevent surface damage. Be careful with raw clear quartz and geodes, as these will break or turn dull in (salt)water. Other ways to cleanse your quartz are by using sound, selenite, and smoke cleansing.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Salt? (Explained)

Clear quartz can absolutely go in salt. In fact, it will love the thorough cleanse! Salt is great at drawing out low vibrations so that there’s enough room for all the positive energy you’re going to fill it with during charging.

The reason clear quartz is perfectly fine in salt, has mostly to do with its hardness:  This stone is a 7 on the Mohs scale.
In short, this scale indicates how scratch-resistant a stone is. Each stone is given a number between 1 – 10: the higher the number, the more it can handle.

Besides this, it means that clear quartz cannot be scratched by any mineral with a lower value.  The fact that clear quartz scores rather high is great news for the stone – it means that salt (a 2.5 on the scale) cannot scratch or indent your stones.

Still, I personally avoid cleansing any stone with salt. Simply because salt is inherently abrasive and can leave stones dull. Besides, there are plenty of other methods to cleanse your stone that come with no risks whatsoever.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Himalayan Salt?

Yes, clear quartz can go in Himalayan salt, either dry or dissolved in water.
As mentioned in “Can clear quartz be in salt?”, clear quartz is higher up on the Mohs scale of hardness, meaning it won’t scratch your stone.

Can Clear Quartz Go In Saltwater?

Clear quartz can go in saltwater just fine. It has a high enough score on the Mohs scale of hardness (7) & does not have contain any iron ore that can cause rust.

Generally, stones that score at least a 5 on the Mohs scale of hardness or safe in water. Though the combination of salt and water can be a bit much for many stones, clear quartz should be fine.

For those that care about the looks of their crystals, it’s important to note that any crystal that is left to soak in water for extended periods of time will lose it’s shine. This won’t affect it’s vibrations, so you can just use it the same. For this same reason, I would also avoid swimming with your clear quartz jewelry. It would be a shame if it were to lose its shine!

Besides, if you have any raw crystals, clear quartz or otherwise, these should never be cleansed in salt water. Raw crystals have more miniscule cracks that the salt can get into, leaving it more vulnerable.

How To Cleanse Clear Quartz Using Salt

To cleanse your clear quartz there are a few steps, as well as precautions, you need to keep in mind.

The steps are as follows:

  1. Fill a bowl (not glass!) with a layer of salt. Between half and 2 inches should be plenty.
  2. Place your clear quartz (or any other crystals that are safe in salt) on the salt. Don’t bury it.
  3. Leave the crystals for 2-7 hours, never more than 8. Length depends on how energetically heavy it feels. Pick it up every once in a while and see how it makes you feel.
  4. When you feel the stone is ready, quickly rinse it under water to get rid of the leftover salt and dry with a soft cloth. Don’t soak it.
  5. Throw away the salt. This has now absorbed all the low vibrations and you really don’t want to sprinkle negative energy all over your food.
  6. Charge your stone, using moonlight, selenite, or by burying it. If you want to know more about how to safely charge your clear quartz, you can read this article I wrote: “Can Clear Quartz Go In Sun?

Lastly, some things to keep in mind whilst cleansing your quartz.

It is perfectly safe to cleanse more than one crystal in the same bowl. In fact, I’d highly recommend it, or else you’ll have to keep several bowls of salt, or switch it out after a few hours. It’s just a whole load of hassle.
If you do, make sure each stone has their own space in the bowl and don’t touch each other. Give them room to cleanse themselves. Every stone needs to make full contact with the salt.

When you’re cleansing a piece of jewelry with clear quartz in it, ensure the clasp is closed an preferably wrapped in a soft cloth. You really don’t want salt getting into the clasp and causing damage there.

Again, because I can’t stress this enough, just cleansing your stone isn’t enough. Cleansing it removed any negative energies, but you also want to fill it with positive vibrations by charging it.

How To Cleanse Clear Quartz Without Salt

As mentioned, I choose to stay away from salt when cleansing my crystals, as I simply do not like taking the risk. Besides, there are plenty of other methods you can use that do not carry risk. Below, I’ll briefly outline the following ways:

  • Smoke cleansing
  • Selenite
  • Sound
  • Bury it in brown rice or dirt

Smoke Cleansing

Smoke cleansing uses a herb of choice to energetically cleanse an object, in this case the clear quartz. Smoke doesn’t damage crystals, resulting in smoke cleansing being one of the safest ways to cleanse your crystals.

To smoke cleanse you need a herb of choice. Simply light it, blow out the flame and waft the smoke over the stone. Make sure your energy is light and you’ve set an intention to think of when cleansing.

I also recommend opening a window to let the smoke leave the room and take the low vibrations with it. Besides, you don’t want to sit in a room filled with smoke – don’t bully your lungs.

NOTE: Beware that using the term ‘smudging’ and the practice of burning white sage/palo santo is commonly used in the spiritual community. This is a specific type of smoke cleansing used by Native Americans, and which was illegal up until about 40 years ago. We recommend using a form of smoke cleansing that is appropriate for you and your culture.

Selenite Stone or Plate

Selenite is a wonderful stone, that can transmute negative energies into positive ones. Because of this, this stone is often seen as self-cleansing. The beauty of it all is that you don’t need to activate it or even be present – selenite is always working for you!

All you have to do is place the crystal that you want to cleanse, in this case clear quartz, on top of the selenite. Makes sure that the clear quartz is smaller than the selenite. I like to leave it for bout 24 hours, but as always, feel the stone and then decide if you want to leave it for longer.

If you’d like to cleanse more stones at once, I recommend using a selenite slab. These are basically plates made of selenite, and give you plenty of room to charge all your crystals.

Bury It

You can also cleanse your stone by burying it. I especially like to use this method if I feel one of my crystals is heavier than normal, and it needs a more heavy duty cleanse. In this case you can either bury the stone outside in the ground, or just leave it in a bowl with brown rice.

For everything else, you can follow the same steps as you would for cleansing a stone with salt.

Sound

If you’re looking for an effective way to cleanse and charge the stone – use sound! For this, you can use either singing bowls, tuning forks, or my favorite; YouTube videos.
When using sound make sure your energy is always light, so you’re not impacting the high vibrations of the music. Simply let the sound fill the room and repeat the intention you have set for the crystal.
