Chemical Composition

Shattuckite is a dark blue copper mineral that forms as fibrous crystals or needles in massive or radiating mineral aggregates. It occurs as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zone of copper deposits

Chrysocolla forms when copper compounds get oxidized, and these oxidized products combine with silicic acid in the uppermost layers of copper ore veins.

Color

Shattuckite has a trademark vivid blue color ranging between bright blue, turquoise blue, and dark blue.

Chrysocolla has a cyan color. This attractive cyan color is a vivid blue-green hue that is soothing, inspiring, and calm.

Pattern and Clarity

Shattuckite is a translucent stone that is easy to polish. Naturally, it has a silky or glassy luster, but when it is polished, it reflects light easily. It comes in a variety of patterns. It can have striations, webs, mottles, or have a similar look throughout.

Chrysocolla often has multiple colors, with veins or inclusions that are either black or brown. The different inclusion makes the stone either translucent to opaque.
