Can Rose Quartz Go In Salt? (Dry Salt, Himalayan Salt, Saltwater)

Rose quartz needs to be cleansed and recharged regularly, to ensure the stone keeps it’s wonderful healing qualities and doesn’t become a place where low vibrations are stored. Today we will answer the questions whether it is safe to leave your rose quartz on salt, as well as other (safe) methods to cleanse your crystal.

Rose quartz can go in salt, including saltwater. The stone is hard enough (7 on Mohs scale of hardness) to not be damaged by abrasive salt. Be careful with raw rose quartz in salt(water) as this can cause the stone to break. Other ways to cleanse your rose quartz are by using selenite, running water, smoke cleansing and sound.

If you want to know why this is, and how to safely use salt to cleanse your stone keep reading! I will also explain some other methods to cleanse your stone and give you a quick overview of its properties.

Can Rose Quartz Go In Salt? (Explained)

Rose quartz can go in salt, as well as saltwater. This is because rose quartz, just like any other form of quartz, is relatively hard. It ranks at a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. This scale indicates how strong a stone is – the higher the number, the stronger it is. As a reference, diamond is a 10 whereas a fingernail is about a 2.

We need to know this in order to determine whether a crystal can go in salt, because the higher the number the more scratch resistant it is. After all, any crystal can scratch another mineral with a lower number. For instance, that diamond will definitely be able to leave a scratch on a fingernail. Luckily, salt itself isn’t very hard, about a 2.5, meaning it won’t scratch the surface of your rose quartz.

Apart from how scratch resistant it is, we also need to remember that salt can get into the miniscule cracks of your rose quartz. If you just place it on top of salt, this will only be a small amount and won’t immediately cause problems. The issue, however, occurs when we regularly cleanse our stone using this method. It can cause build-up and eventually crack your stone from the inside out.

To prevent this, make sure you rinse your rose quartz after cleansing it with salt. Also never place raw stones or geodes in the salt. They have more cracks compared to polished stones and are thus at a higher risk.

If your stone does end up breaking, this won’t affect it’s vibrations. As the metaphysical properties will stay the same, you will be able to use the stone the same way as you did before.

Can Rose Quartz Go In Himalayan Salt?

As explained in “Can Rose Quartz Go In Salt?” it is perfectly fine to leave your stone on any form of salt, but beware of the risks. You can also dissolve Himalayan salt into water and use this to cleanse your stone.

Can Rose Quartz Go In Saltwater?

Rose quartz can go in saltwater, but there are risks involved.

As explained previously, the issue with salt is that it can go into the cracks in your stone and cause breakage. Saltwater is even worse, as the salt travels into those cracks even easier. The water will then evaporate and leave a bunch of salt behind. This greatly increases the risk of cracking and is simply unnecessary – just leaving it on salt already works and has less risks.

For this reason, I personally choose to keep my rose quartz, as well as any other crystal, away from saltwater.

Again, it is perfectly safe to use water and salt separately to cleanse your stone. Quartz generally loves a good rinse, but be aware that any stone left in water will become dull eventually. Overtime water damages the shiny surface. So, if you care about the looks of your rose quartz, you might want to avoid this method altogether.

If you’re cleansing silver jewelry with rose quartz in it, never put it in salt water. This will tarnish the silver and leave you with a dark, stained chain.

How To Cleanse Rose Quartz With Salt

If you want to cleanse your rose quartz in salt, there is two ways you can do this – in dry salt and in saltwater. Though I do not recommend the latter, I will explain the steps for both methods below.

In Dry Salt

Grab a bowl and fill it with a layer of salt. Make sure the bowl is large enough for the rose quartz, and any other crystal you may want to cleanse at the same time, to make full contact with the salt. Never bury them, that just increases your risks and is unnecessary.

rose quartz

If you’re cleansing a piece of jewelry with rose quartz in it, you might want to wrap the clasp in a bit of tissue paper to stop the salt from getting into it.

Leave your stone for a few hours. If you cleanse it regularly and it doesn’t feel too energetically heavy, an hour should be fine. However, if it does feel heavy, leave it overnight. Don’t leave them for longer than that as it leaves your stone more vulnerable than needed.

Give your stone a quick rinse when you’re done and dry it with a soft cloth. Make sure you throw away the salt after using it. It is now storing all the negative energy previously in your stone, and you don’t want to put that into your body.

After cleansing, quickly rinse the stone under running water and dry it with a soft cloth.

Lastly, always make sure you charge your rose quartz after cleansing. The salt gets rid of the negative energies, but charging your stone will put positive ones back into it!

In Saltwater

If you choose to cleanse your crystals with saltwater, regardless of the risks, here’s how to do it.

Collect a bowl of fresh sea water (if you can!) or put a tablespoon of salt into a bowl of water. Make sure all the salt has dissolved in the water, and place your rose quartz in the water. Leave it for a few hours, again depending on how energetically heavy it feels.

Take your rose quartz out of the bowl and run it under tap water to get rid of any leftover salt and dry it with a soft cloth.

How To Cleanse Rose Quartz Without Salt

There are many safe ways to cleanse your rose quartz without salt. My favorites are smoke cleansing, running water, sound and selenite.

Sound

To cleanse using sound you need a singing bowl, tuning fork or just a plain YouTube video. Set your intention for the crystal(s) and play the sound. It will release the negative energies from your stone, but make sure the energy can leave the room here too.

As mentioned previously, quartz loves a water cleanse. To cleanse it using this method just leave it in a stream for about an hour, if you have access to one. If not, cleansing your rose quartz by holding it under running water for a few minutes works just fine. This method works best for polished stones but is not recommended for rough stones or geodes. Additionally, beware that any stone will turn dull if you leave it in water regularly.

Selenite

You can also use a crystal called selenite to cleanse your rose quartz. Selenite is special, as it has the ability to transmute negative vibrations into positive ones. This is great for when you’re feeling a bit down yourself, but also works wonders for your crystals. To cleanse (and charge at the same time) them like this, just leave your rose quartz on top of the selenite for about 24 hours. Make sure your selenite is bigger than your rose quartz.
The great thing about this method is that you don’t need to charge the rose quartz afterwards – selenite will do both for you at the same time.

Smoke Cleansing

For smoke cleansing, all you need is some herbs of your choice. Light the bundle and blow out the flame. Then waft the smoke over your crystals and state your intention. The smoke will carry away any negative vibrations and leave your with a happy stone. Please make sure you open a window so the smoke has a way to leave your home.

NOTE: Beware that using the term ‘smudging’ and the practice of burning white sage/palo santo is commonly used in the spiritual community. This is a specific type of smoke cleansing used by Native Americans, and which was illegal up until about 40 years ago. We recommend using a form of smoke cleansing that is appropriate for you and your culture.

How To Charge Rose Quartz

Charging your rose quartz can also be done via several different methods. Personally, I like using moonlight as it is a safe method for all crystals and I thus charge them all at the same time. Another method is by burying it in the ground. The earth will absorb the low vibrations return positive ones.

If you want to know more about either of these methods, I recommend reading this post that I wrote earlier: “Can Rose Quartz Be In The Sun?”. Scroll down a bit, and you’ll find the explanation there.

If you want to cleanse and charge your stones at the same time, use either selenite or sound. These are both explained above.
