Why Wear Clear Quartz?

Crystals work together with your energy field to help with healing. This can be emotional, physical or spiritual.

There are different ways in which we can interact with these stones. Some like to make elixirs to consume throughout the day, whereas others like to mediate to really hone into the energy. Wearing your crystal is just another way of working with the stones energy – quite a popular one as well! Not only because it allows you to work with its energy all day, but also because they simply look very pretty.

Clear quartz specifically is worn for many different reasons. Most importantly, clear quartz is the Master Healer and will therefore help you align your chakra’s and feel more balanced.  It is also a great stone for mediation as clear quartz is associated with the crown chakra, located right at the top of the head, and brings the wearer clarity and calmness.

Who Should Wear Clear Quartz?

Clear quartz can be worn by anyone and most likely won’t have any negative side effects. However, your sun sign, birth month, profession, and mental and physical health may affect whether you want to wear clear quartz or if another crystal might be more beneficial for you.

Generally, clear quartz is great for those who feel they need some sort of healing in their lives, either physical, spiritual or emotional. As most of us fall into this group, clear quartz is a great stone for most people.

Clear quartz is not a modern or traditional birthstone. This means it has no particular association with any zodiac signs. However, clear quartz is associated with Venus (the planet of love), which rules both Libra and Taurus. As a result, clear quartz will provide a soothing and familiar energy for these signs.

Taurus’ who wear this stone will most likely feel a little softer and less headstrong, enabling them to see the other options. It will also help them to release their worries and fears, which are very common for earth signs.

Libra’s on the other hand would benefit from keeping a clear quartz on their person to bring them a little more clarity and, as a result, be more decisive.  It is also beneficial as it allows them to feel more optimistic and enjoy the current moment.

In terms of physical health, clear quartz is called “The Master Healer” for a reason. With it’s ability to realign chakra’s it can help heal most ailments. Particularly, any issues to do with the immune system can be helped by carrying around a piece of clear quartz. Of course, crystals are never a replacement for professional medical help. If you are experiencing serious issues, always go to a doctor. You can then use your clear quartz to support you.

In terms of profession, any person working in a field or environment where they feel is a lot of negative energy would benefit from this stone. It is great at purifying energy and keeping out negative vibrations.

Who Should Not Wear Clear Quartz?

Most people will benefit from wearing clear quartz. The stone has lots of gentle, healing energy, which is not something that could hurt you.
One of the main reasons you shouldn’t is because you are not currently trying to work with its energy that is geared towards the crown chakra. For example, if you are looking for a stone that will help you find some more joy and energy, you might be better off getting a citrine.

Citrine salt
Citrine geode

Beware that you should avoid wearing type of quartz (like clear quartz, citrine or amethyst) with opal, moonstone or pearls.

However, I always recommend trying clear quartz out: if you are drawn to this stone it is probably for a reason. Wear it for a week or two and see how your feel. Again, crystals are meant to be used intuitively so you are the best person to decide if it works for you.

When Should You Wear Clear Quartz?

Clear quartz, just like any other crystal, works best if it gets to work with your energy as much as possible. Therefore, it is recommended to wear it daily.
It is also particularly useful to wear this stone when you are meditation. Clear quartz will help open your crown chakra, so that you are more open to receiving any messages from the universe. You’ll also be able to realign you chakras using this stone. If this is your goal, I’ll leave a 1 minute guided meditation video for you to use below.

There are some times when you should take your clear quartz jewelry of however, which you’ll find below.

Firstly, I recommend taking your clear quartz off when you’re coming into contact with water; showering, swimming or cleaning. Though clear quartz is strong enough to not immediately be damaged by water (7 on the Mohs scale), it will turn dull after being exposed to it regularly.
For those unfamiliar, the Mohs scale provides every mineral with a number from 1-10. The higher the number, the more it can handle. For reference, talc is a 1, whereas diamonds are a 10. As a general rule, a mineral needs to be at the very least a 5, preferably 6, to be able to withstand water.

Beware that when you’re swimming in the ocean it is even more important that you take it off, as salt is naturally abrasive and will cause your stone to be damaged even quicker.

Additionally, sunbathing with your clear quartz on is also not ideal. Not only will you be sure to get strange tan lines, but you might end up with a broken stone.
As clear quartz is a type of quartz, it is sensitive to the UV light from the sun. This influences the integrity of the stone. However, how fast this happens differs per clear quartz crystal. Some will be fine when left in the sun for a little bit, whereas others will only break after a significantly longer time.  Unfortunately, you will only know when it is already too late. Therefore, I personally keep my stone out of the sun altogether.

Luckily, the vibrations don’t change if your stone breaks. If you (accidentally) leave your stone in the sun, and you’re left with two smaller stones rather than one big one, it will still be just as useful as it was before.

Also, please be aware the clear quartz can heat up in the sunlight and can turn into a fire hazard if you keep it near anything flammable, like paper or wood. Be careful when you pick it up too, so you don’t burn your fingers.

If you still choose to charge your clear quartz using sunlight, leave it behind a window. Glass filters out most of the UV light, decreasing the chances of your stone breaking. For this same reason, your clear quartz will most likely be fine as long as you keep it inside.

On Which Hand Should I Wear A Clear Quartz Bracelet Or Ring?

There are generally two opinions on this topic.

Firstly, some say the left hand is your receiving hand, whereas your right is your giving hand. Depending on what you are looking for from your crystal, you can place it on either of those sides. In this case, this left-in and right-out is said to just be the flow of energy through the body and which never changes.

Others however, believe that this flow of energy changes depending on if you’re left or right-handed. Your dominant hand (the hand that you write with) is your giving hand and releases energy. Your non-dominant hand is the receiving hand.

Clear quartz can be placed on either side, depending on what you are looking for. If you are looking for balance and alignment of the chakra’s place it on your receiving hand. If you are wanting to release negative energy, place it on your giving hand.

As you can see, there are some different views. Personally, I would recommend trying out both sides and see how you feel. Crystals are meant to be used intuitively, so use this to determine which side works for you.

Can You Wear Clear Quartz Every Day?

When it comes to clear quartz’s energy, you can absolutely wear it every day. In fact, it is recommended to do so, as it allows the stone’s energy to be fully incorporated into your life.

However, if you have a piece jewelry that you are particularly fond of you might not want to wear it every day. As clear quartz is a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness it is durable enough for regular use and isn’t likely to be damaged. But, just like anything when you use it regularly, it most likely won’t look as pretty after a while. Heat, water and just general wear will cause your stone to become less shiny or potentially even chip off. If you shower or clean with clear quartz jewelry on the damage will occur much quicker. More information about clear quartz and water you’ll find in this post: “Can Clear Quartz Go In Water?

If you do choose to wear clear quartz every day and you want to splurge a little, it is best to buy a ring in a more protective setting such as a bezel or halo.

Can You Sleep With Clear Quartz On?

You can sleep with clear quartz under your pillow or on your body. In fact, many swear by it. Sleeping with your clear quartz jewelry on helps to clear any negative thoughts and brings you clarity in your dream state. This stone is also an amplifier, which means it strengthens the energy of other stones. As a result, it is great to use in combination with other stones. Think of amethyst if you’re wanting to release anxiety, or citrine if you’re looking to fend off nightmares.

Can You Shower With Clear Quartz On?

The fact that clear quartz scores a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness means it has a high enough score to prevent immediate damage.

Do keep in mind is that any stone that comes into contact regularly or for extended periods of time will eventually turn dull. This is especially true for polished stones, as they often have a finish over them to make them more shiny. When you expose your stone to water it eats away at this layer first. This is a good thing, as it protects your stone for a little while longer. The bad news however, is that it will also remove the shine. Luckily, it won’t affect its vibrations and you’ll be able to use it just the same. It just won’t be as pretty.

So if you care about the looks of your crystal it might be better to avoid water altogether.

Can You Swim With Clear Quartz On?

As written above, clear quartz is hard enough to withstand water. However beware that submerging your stone for longer periods of time is often a different story.

This is because every stone has miniscule cracks on its surface. Don’t be deceived by your polished jewelry, even the most polished stones have them. Water will go into these cracks and cause them to expand. The larger these cracks, the more likely your clear quartz is to break. Raw clear quartz and geodes are even more likely to split, simply because they have more cracks. As a result, I would not recommend swimming with your clear quartz.

It is even worse if you choose to swim in the ocean or sea with your clear quartz, as the salt in it is detrimental to most crystals. Salt will also cause silver to tarnish so if your clear quartz is in a piece of silver jewelry this would be even worse.

Lastly, as stated above, every stone that comes into contact with water regularly will eventually turn dull. So, if you are trying to keep your clear quartz beautiful, it might be better to avoid water.
