Full Guide To Morganite vs. Diamond (This is the Difference)

In order to work with our crystals effectively, we need to understand their properties. With crystals that look similar or have similar uses, such as morganite and diamond, it can be difficult to determine which one to work with. The answer should always be; the one that you are drawn to the most. However, if you are looking to find the difference in physical appearance as well as metaphysical properties, you’ll find your answer here.

Although morganite is rarer than diamond, the latter is more valuable because of its popularity. Diamond also has a more eye-catching shine and is more durable. Morganite represents romance, sweetness, and innocence, while diamonds represent purity, loyalty, and everlasting love.

Morganite vs. Diamond – How To Tell The Difference?

In order to understand the difference between these two stones, we can look at the color, shape, pattern, clarity, and more. Below we’ll describe all these aspects in detail.

Chemical Composition

Morganite is beryl, just like emerald and aquamarine, that contains aluminum, beryllium, and silicon. Morganite gets its color from trace amounts of manganese.

Morganite is often heat treated to make the stone more pink than orange or improve clarity. Pink is, after all, generally more desired by buyers. Luckily, this treatment does not affect anything apart from the color, and the stone will be just as stable as it was before. The color also won’t fade.

Diamonds are mainly composed of carbon – about 99%. Trace elements of other minerals fill the remaining 1%. As they generally have very few other elements in their composition, they are most often colorless.
These gemstones form when carbon atoms bond together when subjected to high pressure and temperatures to form crystals.

Color

Morganite has a notable pinkish coloring but can also come in champagne and peach. In fact, the peachy pink light shade is the most common. As said, the stones are often heat-treated to eliminate the yellow and orange tint. Additionally, larger morganite stones display better color saturation compared to smaller stones.

If you are looking for a specific shade of morganite, we always recommend you make sure to see the stone in person before buying. One morganite will not look like the next.

Diamonds are most often entirely colorless. However, there are rare instances where diamonds are found in yellow, black, green, red, or blue. These colored diamonds are known as fancy-colored diamonds.

Pattern and Clarity

If you’re looking for the most sparkly stone, you’ll probably want to go for a diamond.

Additionally, morganite is very susceptible to oils and will turn dull when in contact with them. Keep this in mind if you often wear hand creams or anything of that nature. Many find they have to clean their morganite every 1-2 days with some warm water, soap, and a toothbrush to keep the shine.

Morganite is, however, known to be almost completely free from inclusions, giving it the desired clarity.

Unlike morganite, diamonds naturally have flaws and inclusions; these imperfections prove the authenticity of the crystals. Very rarely will a naturally occurring diamond appear flawless. Unfortunately, these inclusions affect the clarity of the diamond, which proportionally affects the price.

Hardness

Apart from their shine, there’s another reason many would choose a diamond over morganite: the former is much harder than the latter.
On the Mohs scale of hardness, morganite rates a 7.5, while diamonds rate a 10.

If you’re unfamiliar, the Mohs scale of hardness determines a stone’s hardness by measuring how scratch-resistant it is and scoring this on a scale of 1-10. According to this scale, a stone can scratch any other mineral with a lower score. For reference, talc is a 1, whereas diamond is the hardest.

With this score, diamonds are incredibly strong and are the best choice if you only care about longevity. After all, they are less likely to scratch and chip, especially when worn daily, making them the more durable option. However, morganite’s 7.5 still makes it perfectly strong enough for daily wear.

Care

Both stones can be cleaned with warm water, soap, and a soft brush. We never recommend leaving your jewelry or crystals to soak, as it can turn them dull and brittle, although this is unlikely to happen with diamonds.
Make sure to avoid any harsh chemicals, like acetone or alcohol, when cleaning.
Your best option would be to give it a regular clean yourself and take it to a jeweler every year or so for inspection and a potential deeper clean. This way, you’ll be sure to avoid breaking the ring or stone and keep it in the best possible condition.

Location

Morganite was first discovered in Madagascar, which continues to be the leading producer of the finest gemstones, along with Brazil.
Diamonds come from Russia, Congo, and Botswana, among other parts of the world.
Interestingly, morganite is rarer than diamond. The reason these stones are cheaper is simply that the demand is lower.

Metaphysical Properties

Beware that crystals are never a replacement for professional medical help. If you have any issues, see a doctor first and follow their advice.

Morganite is associated with joy, peace, and personal power. The stone is connected to the heart chakra, which means it also represents love, sweetness, and romance.
Additionally, this stone is used to alleviate stress, attract peace, and bring mental clarity to a troubled mind. Morganite helps to heal emotional wounds, giving space for us to love ourselves and others unconditionally.

Diamonds symbolize purity and power. In relationships, the stone represents commitment, trust, and fidelity and is associated with bringing love and abundance. When used together with other stones, it amplifies their healing energies. Diamonds inspire clarity, fearlessness, and new beginnings.

Chakra Association

Morganite is associated with activating the heart chakra (Anahata), while diamonds are connected to the crown chakra (Sahasrara).
If you’re unfamiliar with chakras, here’s a quick explanation to help you understand how these crystals work; chakras are the different energy points in our bodies. There are 7, each of them linked to a certain aspect of our lives. We can link each chakra to crystals by color and their properties.

Chakra

The heart chakra is located at the center of the chest. It’s connected to our ability to give and receive love, empathy, and compassion. Its associated colors are green/pink, which justifies its connection with morganite crystals. Working with this chakra helps to dissolve anger and ego and opens the chakra up to compassion and healing. By stimulating this chakra, the wearer can interact with others and remain authentic to themselves.

The crown chakra is located at the top of the head. It is the gateway to the spiritual realms and a connection to our spirit guides. Furthermore, it’s displayed as white/violet. It is also associated with our thoughts, wisdom, and spiritual enlightenment.

Zodiac Association and Ruling Planets

Different cultures around the world have created links between gemstones and the months. The Indians created the ayurvedic list of birthstones, the Tibetans created the mystical, the traditional list originates in Christianity, and the American Gem Association created the modern list.
When a stone is associated with a zodiac sign, it particularly benefits them. However, feel free to use a crystal or gem when you feel attracted to it, regardless of your sign.

Diamonds are modern birthstones for April (Aries and Taurus). Diamond’s connection to Taurus is strengthened even more because they are both ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and luxury. Libra is also ruled by Venus, making it a perfect match for diamonds too.

Diamonds are also the gemstones for the 60th anniversary.

Morganite is not a birthstone. However, it is also ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, luxury, and love. Again, Libra and Taurus are both ruled by this planet.

Element Association

Many cultures have developed the idea of elements to explain nature. In the west, this idea was created by the ancient Greeks and consisted of 4 elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.

The 4 elements represent the following:

  • Earth for personal growth, stability, and security
  • Water for love, friendships, and emotions
  • Air for intellect, wisdom, and communication
  • Fire for energy, passion, and action

By looking at a crystal’s or gemstone’s properties, we can determine which element fits best.

Morganite is associated with the water element. This element is also connected to the Moon, which governs intuition, feelings, and emotions. Water is symbolic across cultures and religions as a medium for protection, healing, and purity. Crystals of this element will improve intuition and wisdom.

Diamonds are associated with the fire element. It is the element that represents energy, passion, and transformation. It’s the most active of the four elements and can be destructive if out of balance. Furthermore, it manifests in emotions like empathy, anger, hate, love, and passion. They can also be used to promote vitality and prevent the depletion of energy.

Numerical Vibration

Morganite vibrates at 3. The number in numerology represents wisdom, peace, wealth, and harmony. It’s also associated with confidence, expression, and high creativity levels. As a psychic number, it represents ambition and greatness. Crystals of this vibration inspire wisdom and curiosity.

Diamonds vibrate at 33. These are master energies that resonate with compassion, courage, honesty, and discipline. Crystals of this numerical vibration will inspire bravery and guide your life endeavors. These energies are believed to open all body chakras and awaken the kundalini energies.

Uses

There are many different ways to use these stones. Below we’ll outline a few options for you.

Jewelry

Wearing jewelry is the best way to include these stones into your life, as they allow you to work with the stone’s energy all day. Make sure to wear them on your skin closest to the associated chakra, allowing you to reap the most of the stone’s benefits. For morganite, this would mean a necklace, while for diamonds, earrings are a good option.

Meditation

Morganite is believed to be able to calm the mind and bring tranquility. When used in meditation practices, it helps improve clarity and one’s mental state. Diamonds in meditation enhance relaxation, personal growth, and therapeutic healing to the body, mind, and soul. The stone also activates and stimulates the crown chakra, which opens us to higher consciousness and divine realms.

If you’d like to meditate with these stones, I’ll leave two guided meditations for you below. One for the crown chakra (diamond) and one for the heart chakra (morganite).

Best Combinations

These stones can each be paired with other crystals and gems to amplify or complement their properties.

Morganite can be combined with pink tourmaline to stimulate the heart chakra. The pair will inspire love and kindness and heal emotional wounds. Both stones can be used to attract wealth and love.

Lepidocrocite and morganite will bring emotional healing and protect your energies from low vibrational entities. The pair also helps with self-expression and letting go of ego and pride. The energies of both stones are powerful in their connection to spiritual realms and guides.

Diamonds can be paired with a tiger’s eye to increase vitality. The tiger’s eye benefits are clarity, positivity, optimism, and increased awareness. Diamonds play their part in amplifying the energies of any stone it is combined with to harness their full potential.
